The Biewer Terrier is an elegant, tri-colored toy terrier known for its flowing silky coat and cheerful personality. These rare, AKC-recognized companion dogs are playful, affectionate, and wonderfully suited to families and apartment living.
The Biewer Terrier originated in Germany in 1984 when Werner and Gertrud Biewer, experienced Yorkshire Terrier breeders, discovered a recessive piebald gene in their breeding line that produced puppies with distinctive white, blue, and gold tri-colored coats. The first documented Biewer Terrier was a puppy named Schneeflocken von Friedheck.
The breed was initially called the Biewer Yorkshire Terrier a la Pom Pon, reflecting its Yorkshire Terrier heritage. However, DNA studies later confirmed that the Biewer Terrier had developed enough genetic distinction to be recognized as a separate breed. In 2014, the AKC accepted the Biewer Terrier into its Foundation Stock Service, and in 2021, the breed achieved full AKC recognition in the Toy Group.
Today, the Biewer Terrier is prized worldwide for its stunning tri-colored coat, charming personality, and hypoallergenic qualities. They remain a relatively rare breed, making well-bred puppies highly sought after by discerning families.
Playful, lighthearted, and affectionate. Biewer Terriers are charming little dogs with big personalities. They are eager to please, love being the center of attention, and form strong bonds with their families. Despite their small size, they are confident and adventurous.
Low to moderate exercise needs. Short daily walks and indoor play sessions are ideal. They love interactive toys and games. Their small size makes them perfect for apartment living, though they enjoy outdoor adventures in safe environments.
Intelligent and eager to please, making them relatively easy to train. Respond best to positive reinforcement with treats and praise. Early socialization is important. They can be stubborn at times, so patience and consistency are key. Excellent candidates for trick training.
Generally a healthy breed with few genetic issues. May be prone to patellar luxation, hypoglycemia (especially as puppies), dental issues due to small jaw size, and sensitive stomachs. Regular dental care and a balanced diet are important.
Perfect for families, seniors, singles, and apartment dwellers. Excellent with older children who handle them gently. Great for first-time dog owners. Their hypoallergenic coat makes them suitable for allergy sufferers. They thrive on companionship and do best in homes where they are not left alone for long periods.
12-15 years
Long, flowing, silky coat that requires regular grooming. Daily brushing to prevent matting is recommended. Regular baths every 2-3 weeks. Many owners opt for a shorter "puppy cut" for easier maintenance. The coat is considered hypoallergenic.
Every puppy leaves our kennel with a formal written warranty — genuine, backed by veterinary records, and honoured for as long as the puppy is in your care.
Every puppy is covered for 10 days from the go-home date against common communicable conditions such as parvovirus, distemper, and infectious hepatitis. A written diagnosis from a licensed veterinarian entitles you to a full refund or replacement puppy.
For 12 months we stand behind the genetic health of every puppy. If a breed-specific hereditary defect is medically confirmed during that time, we will either replace the puppy or refund the purchase price — our commitment, in writing, from day one.
Our promise does not expire when your puppy arrives. Whenever you have a question — feeding, behaviour, health, travel — our team of breeders and vets is available for the life of your companion, free of charge.
Before leaving our kennel, each puppy undergoes two independent health checks: once at 7 weeks and again within 48 hours of travel. We partner exclusively with AVMA & RCVS-registered clinics, and all records, stamps, and signatures travel with your puppy.
