AvailableThe Australian Cattle Dog, also known as the Blue Heeler or Red Heeler, is a sturdy, intelligent, and hardworking herding breed. Known for their remarkable endurance and loyalty, these dogs are exceptional companions for active families and working environments.
The Australian Cattle Dog was developed in Australia during the 19th century to handle the demanding conditions of driving cattle across vast, rugged terrain. Early settlers crossbred imported British herding dogs with native Australian Dingoes to create a breed tough enough for the harsh outback environment.
The breed was refined through careful crosses involving Dalmatians (for loyalty to horses and handlers), Black and Tan Kelpies (for herding ability), and Bull Terriers (for tenacity). The result was a compact, muscular dog with extraordinary stamina, intelligence, and a natural herding instinct. Thomas Hall is often credited as a key figure in the breed's early development, and the dogs were originally known as "Hall's Heelers."
The breed was officially recognized by the AKC in 1980. Today, Australian Cattle Dogs excel in herding, agility, obedience, and as devoted family companions. They hold a Guinness World Record for longevity — a Blue Heeler named Bluey lived to be 29 years and 5 months old.
Intelligent, alert, courageous, and fiercely loyal. Australian Cattle Dogs are deeply devoted to their families and can be protective. They are highly energetic and thrive on having a job to do. They can be reserved with strangers but are affectionate and playful with family members.
Very high energy breed requiring 1-2 hours of vigorous exercise daily. They excel at running, hiking, agility, flyball, and herding activities. Mental stimulation through puzzle toys, training, and interactive games is equally essential to prevent boredom-related behaviors.
Extremely intelligent and highly trainable with consistent, positive methods. They require early socialization and firm but fair guidance. They excel in obedience, agility, and herding trials. Best suited for experienced dog owners who understand herding breed behaviors. They respond poorly to repetitive training — keep sessions varied and challenging.
Generally a robust breed. May be prone to progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), hip dysplasia, deafness (especially in dogs with significant white on the head), and elbow dysplasia. BAER hearing testing is recommended for all puppies.
Best suited for active, experienced dog owners with a secure yard. Ideal for families who enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, running, and camping. They do well with older children who are respectful. Not recommended for apartment living or sedentary households.
12-16 years
Short, dense, weather-resistant double coat. Weekly brushing to remove loose fur. Heavier shedding occurs twice a year. Occasional baths as needed. Low-maintenance grooming overall.
Every puppy leaves our kennel with a formal written warranty — genuine, backed by veterinary records, and honoured for as long as the puppy is in your care.
Every puppy is covered for 10 days from the go-home date against common communicable conditions such as parvovirus, distemper, and infectious hepatitis. A written diagnosis from a licensed veterinarian entitles you to a full refund or replacement puppy.
For 12 months we stand behind the genetic health of every puppy. If a breed-specific hereditary defect is medically confirmed during that time, we will either replace the puppy or refund the purchase price — our commitment, in writing, from day one.
Our promise does not expire when your puppy arrives. Whenever you have a question — feeding, behaviour, health, travel — our team of breeders and vets is available for the life of your companion, free of charge.
Before leaving our kennel, each puppy undergoes two independent health checks: once at 7 weeks and again within 48 hours of travel. We partner exclusively with AVMA & RCVS-registered clinics, and all records, stamps, and signatures travel with your puppy.
